So this weeks Illustration Friday word was “Mysterious”, and thoughts are mysterious things right? Especially the unknown, like spooky birthday gifts. Actually, this one turned out a bit weirder than I thought it would, but I hope you enjoy it!

Hide & Seek

I have now submitted my entry to the Paperwings Podcast contest to win a new Wacom tablet. Of course I hope to win, but mostly it was nice to finish a new image. For more info about the contest, visit the contest page.

A line allows progress. A circle does not.

Lately I’ve been able to figure out some things. I mean really figure out stuff. An example would be: When I looked through Andrew Loomis book Fun With a Pencil I learned how to draw faces in different shapes without reference. And the turn out pretty good now. Another example: I was really struggling to find a good shape for a little girl I’m drawing for one of my childrens book projects, so I looked it up. And now I know how to do it. I mean in a more fundamental way than before. One small step …

2B or not 2B

There aren’t really a lack of alternatives when it comes to tools in art. Anything goes, and you can probably work with what you got at home already. But one of the fun aspects of this is the exploration of new stuff you can use, and I think this exploration is important.
